Duckler & Mayne Join Dance and Architechture for Space Opera @ Morphosis

DRUPAL_Space_Opera_2_RGBThe work of two Los Angeles-based iconoclasts, choreographer Heidi Duckler and architect Thom Mayne will be on full display in Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre’s Space Opera, set at Mayne’s Morphosis in Culver City.

Duckler’s newest piece explores the intersection of dance and architecture. Joined by dancers and live musicians (lead by local composer Jon Armstrong), Duckler will bring the audience on both a literal and figurative journey through space and place. The audience will be offered multiple perspectives, as it moves through the parking lot, into the building’s open workspace and finally out into the lush garden courtyard. Space Opera is a mobile performance.

On Sunday March 15, Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre will premiere Space Opera at Morphosis with a 5pm performance followed by an opening night party. On Sunday March 22 the company will reprise the hour-long performance at 2pm & 5pm.

Space Opera is the second Los Angeles performance in Duckler’s 30th season, a milestone Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre will commemorate with an ambitious roster of performances, events and birthday cake throughout 2015.

Tickets to the March 15 opening event cost $50. Tickets to the two performances on March 22 cost $15 for Culver City residents and $25 general admission. Anyone attending the show must have a valid photo ID to enter Morphosis. (Children, accompanied by an adult, may attend without a photo ID.)

Morphosis is located at 3440 Wesley St. in Culver City. For additional information, directions and to purchase tickets visit bit.ly/spaceoperatickets. Performance run time is one hour.

The March 22 performances are made possible in part by a Culver City Performing Arts Grant with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment.
