Culver City High School’s Academy of Visual and Performing Arts is undertaking one of its largest productions ever: The Big Show. For the first time in AVPA’s 19-year history, students will join forces across all five departments in a site-specific celebration of their artistic home, the Robert Frost Auditorium. Installations and performances will take place throughout the building, from stages and balconies to stairwells and closets. Tours will be scheduled throughout the evening to lead visitors through the various spaces.
Art: Visual art students have teamed with student composers to create 10 installations, including one mobile piece, highlighting areas of the building.
Dance: Students will perform original choreography from the stage, the orchestra pit, from within the audience, the lighting booth, the lobby, and ticket booth, and the makeup/dressing room area.
Film: Film installations will take place in a hallway, the restrooms, and stairwells.
Theater: Balconies in the scene shop will transform into performance spaces for scenes from classic theatrical productions. A Greek Chorus will take place in the orchestra pit.
Music: In addition to the art/music collaborations, roving musicians will pop up and perform throughout the evening and will entertain during the reception.
This Thursday December 18; four tours each at 6 and 7 p.m.; reception at 7 p.m.; open house at 8 p.m. There is a 20-person limit per tour. Open house tickets include the reception; all tour tickets include the open house and reception.
