Vernon Taylor and Claudia Vizcarra have both filed papers to join the race for the Culver City School Board. The field as it stands now includes Kathy Paspalis and Karlo Silbiger, both running for re-election. Steve Levin has already begun his campaign efforts, as has Sue Robins.
While the deadline has passed to get the construction bond for the schools on the November ballot, it is still an issue that has a lot of weight in the campaign, and can be expected to be a talking point for all those running for office.
The newly minted Culver City School District Academy is still deciding how to enroll students, but with project-based learning the most talked about revolution in education, it will also be a significant factor in the coming weeks of campaigning.
School is set to start on August 26, with much construction still in process, and an almost complete lack of parking at the school complex on Elenda will mean major traffic challenges.
The six candidates have a lot to talk about – check with Culver City Crossroads.com for updates and interviews as the campaign progresses.
I see SEVEN CCUSD candidates on the ‘filing status’ list at lavote.net, but the final certified list has still not be released. League of Women Voters will invite ALL candidates to post their info, and voters will be able to access it at smartvoter.org.
What is the newly minted Culver City School District Academy?
Robert Zurgulis is, indeed, the seventh candidate.
Judy, information about the Academy can be found on the District website: http://www.ccusd.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=224274&type=d&pREC_ID=495050
I have emailed and called the district for more info – A flyer went out last week to students in the district, and I will post a full article when I have more.
