Mitchell Rolling Up Endorsements in Special Election

On Monday, the unions representing 700,000 social workers, nurses, classroom aides, state workers, security officers, home care workers, janitors, and public and private sector workers and 23,000 California State University professors, lecturers and other professional employees endorsed Holly Mitchell for Senate.

“Assemblymember Mitchell has been a leader in the fight for education funding and the preservation of vital CSU programs since she came to the Assembly,” said Lillian Taiz, president of the California Faculty Association (CFA). “Assemblymember Mitchell is the type of leader we need in the State Senate to ensure a strong California State University system for students and faculty.”

With just five weeks until the September 17th Special Election for State Senate District 26, CFA and SEIU California join other unions including AFSCME California, the California School Employees Association, IATSE, United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals and the State Building and Construction Trades Council in endorsing Mitchell’s candidacy.

“Assemblymember Mitchell has been an unwavering ally in the fight to protect vital social services and restore critical funding to education, healthcare and safety net programs,” said Laphonza Butler, president of SEIU California and SEIU-United Long Term Care Workers Union. “She has been a leader on budget and health policy as well as the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and we need leaders like Holly in the California Senate.”
