Kickstart the Culver City Orchestra (and Save the Date June 8)

The Culver City Symphony Orchestra strives to present concerts of beloved works. We honor and revere the long tradition of these masterworks. They also venture out of the standards to explore music which we feel needs performances.

The June 8, 2013, concert is just that – American Beat/African Influences. Africans, forced into the horrors and inhumanity of the slave trade, were stripped of everything, but their music which they carried inside them. This illustrates the power of the human spirit and the power of music. Over the years, the basic dna of this music has influenced American Music.

With this concert we look at these influences on American Classical Music, with some crossovers of Ragtime and Jazz. There will be works of Scott Joplin, Duke Ellington, (pictured with his orchestra, above)  Adolphus Hailstork, George Gershwin and William Grant Still.

To fulfill this adventure, we ask for your consideration to help fund this concert through Kickstarter, an on-line fundraising site. We are seeking $2,000 to fully fund rehearsals. The concert will take place, but we feel the need to do justice to this music with adequate rehearsals, and right now, we are little short.

Please, consider this unique concert, and make your donation. The greater your donation, the sooner we will meet our funding goal.

Just go to www.kickstarter.com/discover/places/culver-city-ca?ref=card and make your donation.

You will be part of the music making, and contribute to presenting music which continues to influence this nation. Concert information is on our website: Culver City Symphony Orchestra
