Even with working down to the last minute on this Saturday’s “Cruisin’ Back to the ‘50’s” Car Show, the Culver City Exchange Club still managed have past president Earl Eskridge conduct the election for the 2013-2014 Club Officers. Congratulations go to President – Michelle Ford; President Elect – Dr Jay Shery; Vice President – Dr. Vince Punturere; Sergeant at Arms – Mike Heidler; and Board of Directors members Oliver de la Torre, Terri Hudson, and Dr. Bob Montgomery, elected to two year terms, and Barry Sulkin, who was elected to a one year term to fill Dr. Jay Shery’s vacated seat.

A great way to start off your Saturday Car Show stroll is with the Culver City Fire Department’s popular all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8:00am to 11:00am, served by firefighters and City employees. Cost for the feast is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and kids (kids under 12 free). This event will kick off Fire Service Day, a Fire Station #1 open house (that goes until 3:00 p.m.) that will also feature guided station tours, activities for kids including a coloring contest with a chance to win Fire Department t-shirts, equipment displays, and even some fire coats to try on for the public. Culver City’s CERT team will be providing information and assistance, and Culver City Fire Department hats and t-shirts will be available for purchase. Fire Station #1 is located at 9600 Culver Blvd. For more information call (310) 253-5925.

The Culver City Julian Dixon Library is located at 4975 Overland Ave.

The Culver City Education Foundation reminds everyone to “Come celebrate with us as we honor the Volunteers, School District Employees and Community Partners who have contributed their time, talent and resources to the Culver City School District this past year.” This all takes place at the CCEF’s 15th Annual “Tribute to the Stars” this Saturday evening, May 11. The event will be held “under the stars” at Sony Pictures Studios. If you have questions about the event or to register, contact Chris Richardson at [email protected] or call (310) 842-4220, ext. 4212.

From the Culver-Palms Family YMCA comes word that registration for Spring Session 2 classes opens for Facility Members and Program Members this Monday, May 6. Spring Session 2 offers swim lessons and classes in ballet, karate, parent & child, and more! Hard to believe (for some of us, anyway) coming up is the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Betts-Staples Aquatics Center: When the state of the art Aquatics Center opened on May 17, 1983, Culver Y members were thrilled that the center retained the ambience of an outdoor pool, yet, being enclosed, offered uninterrupted participation in aquatics programs year around regardless of the weather. The Aquatics Center was a huge hit, and participation in aquatics programs soared. Drop by the Culver-Palms Family YMCA at 4500 So. Sepulveda Blvd. and see what all the splashing’s about – or call (310) 390-3604 for more information.
