LOCALmotion – Jozelle Smith

The Culver City Exchange Club’s 5K raffle is this Tuesday evening, April 2nd, at 6:00 p.m. at the Elks Lodge –the club will be dark for lunch that day. Always a lot of fun – and profitable for the winners – the event features dinner plus a silent auction with lots of terrific prizes. Past President Mike Fate’s birthday is coming up and it must be a big one – wife Francia’s having a reception at her gallery followed by dinner at Versailles Restaurant next weekend in Mike’s honor!
Attention all you green (or not so green) thumbers: The monthly meeting of the Culver City Garden Club is set for this Tuesday, April 2, at 7:00 p.m. at Star Education, 10117 Jefferson Blvd., between Raintree and Duquesne. Since it’s a Potluck Dinner, there won’t be an official program, but more important will be the official Potluck Discussion: How can the Club observe and/or celebrate its 60th anniversary? A small, medium or large Flower & Plant Show? A special event at the end of the annual annual Garden Hop? Commemorative t-shirts, caps, etc.? This is an important (and also delicious, as always) dinner meeting, and visitors are welcome – just email [email protected] and see how you can get involved!
Isn’t it fun to stroll out of a movie and your Downtown dining choices are laid out in front of you, all styles and cuisines (but when is the Lion “fountain” coming back on – so fun to watch the kids dodging the bursts and bubbles)? We opted for the historic Culver Hotel this past Saturday eve, were lucky enough to get a table and enjoy terrific soups, cheese board and wine while listening to Mark Allan’s twists on traditional jazz. Most fun was watching the parade of guests headed to a private party upstairs, all in 1920’s vintage wear – an extra treat, and actually looking more appropriate to the Culver Hotel setting than what we were wearing!
Is EVERYTHING happening on Tuesday, April 2? Also – at the Culver City Julian Dixon Library at 7:00 p.m. that evening, Culver City Board of Education president Kathy Paspalis will be conducting the Story Time! Kathy will be reading “Seven Silly Eaters” by Mary Ann Hoberman. A fun craft for the kids will follow the story. Pajamas are permitted.
Wait a minute! Here’s something! On NEXT Wednesday, April 10, the Culver City Democratic Club’s 7:00 p.m. meeting at the Veterans’ Memorial Building will feature a free screening of the “Healthcare” movie, plus a discussion with Dr. Bill Honigman of Progressive Democrats of America. Visitors are welcome. For more information, visit www.culvercitydemocraticclub.com.
