LOCALmotion – Jozelle Smith

When the moon hits your eye, etc…that’s amore! And Culver City Chamber of Commerce members will love the site of the year’s first Business After Hours Mixer this Wednesday, January 23 from 5-7 p.m. because it’s hosted by Leo Bulgarini, owner of Bulgarini Gelato, 8686 Washington Blvd. The intensity of these gelato flavors is made possible by using the finest ingredients preserved at their prime, and Leo Bulgarini is described as “…a flavor maestro and a true gelato artisan. “ The fee is $15.00 with prepaid reservations, $20.00 at the door, and reservations should be in by Tuesday, January 22. Call the Chamber Office at (310) 287-3850.
Grilled asparagus and burrata with a fried egg and cilantro pistachio pesto? No, you’re not in Downtown Culver City; you’re on what’s called “the emerging restaurant row” on West Washington Blvd. You may have noted the crowded Waterloo & City and A-Frame restaurants attracting a lot of interest, and now The Corner Door has weighed in at 12477 W. Washington Blvd. Think fried Brussels sprouts with feta cheese, grilled cheese with apricot jam, craft cocktails and warm chocolate chip cookies served with bourbon milk. Egad – you go, Culver City!!
Get your eco-groove on this Saturday, January 26, from 9am-noon, at the La Ballona Creek bike path entrance, Centinela Ave. & Milton St., Mar Vista. Help the Ballona Creek Renaissance clean the creek of ocean-bound trash at this attractive mini-park, where the incoming tide meets the outgoing runoff. Open to volunteers of all ages! Parents should accompany children and sign for minors (under 18). BCR displays and short talks help you learn while making a visible difference. And, BCR signs for community service credits! Birds, fish, and reeds co-habit the area, so remember to respect and protect while you collect! For more on what to bring, what to expect, and waiver forms, go online to www.ballonacreek.org. In case of rain, the cleanup shifts to February…stay posted!
Here’s a heartwarming and fun event: This Saturday, January 26 from 6:00-7:30 pm. at the Senior Center (corner Culver Blvd. and Overland Avenue) the great “Mystic Knights Trio” will provide the music at a Dinner/Dance for CC Disabled Adults. This word comes from local musico Martin (Sonny “B”) Bennett, who leads the toe-tapping group. DDD (dances for developmentally disabled) occurs on the 2nd Friday of each month, and we heard from an anonymous source that there have been some romantic relationships developing from these events. But you didn’t hear it here!
