As we go “to press” it’s almost New Year’s Eve – parties, football, resolutions, you know the drill. Okay, how many times will YOU write “2012” in the coming week? We’re really trying to concentrate…
Westside Unity Church will be hosting a Burning Bowl Service on New Year’s Eve – Monday, December 31, at 6:00 p.m., presided over by Rev. James Daly. This service allows participants to release into fire all of those things they simply do not want to carry into the New Year. Westside Unity is located at 10724 Barman Avenue, near Overland.
The Culver City Rotary Club has been dark for the past two Wednesdays but will make up for it we’re sure, when they reconvene this Wednesday, January 9. Reciprocator editor Janet Chabola extends holiday greetings on behalf of the club to Red and Kit Betts, Ron Coombs, Steve Davidson, Alan Cherko, Paul Knoll, Roger Barnes, Rob Barber and Kathy Haworth, all missed!
From Culver City Friends of the Library co-presidents Elaine Hirohama and Nancy Kuechle comes word of the Friends’ annual meeting and installation dinner on Friday, January 11 at the Culver City Julian Dixon Library at 6:15 pm. Dare we call it “intimate?” The Culver City Chamber of Commerce program Network @ Noon offers an opportunity to network with just six other Chamber members over lunch, rather than feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to schmooze the 50-100 attendees at their monthly luncheons. Chamber President/CEO Steven Rose invites members to register, pay, bring business cards, marketing materials, and an appetite for good food and great networking next Wednesday, January 9 at 12 noon sharp at the SHARE Restaurant at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 6161 Centinela Ave. The cost is $20.00 and we understand the restaurant is debuting a new menu, so (members only) get your reservations in by 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8.
Speaking of the Culver City Chamber of Commerce, they are proudly presenting two more of their popular tours in 2013: First up is Moscow/St. Petersburg (May 2013), followed by a Blue Danube Cruise (October 2013). You do not have to be a Chamber member to join these excursions, so contact Chamber Travel Coordinator Jaylon Letendre at (310) 941-3739 for details or email [email protected] for brochures and reservation forms.
We know it’s hard, but that beloved Christmas tree is probably drooping a little by now and according to the Culver City Fire Department, it’s best to see that it’s put curbside as soon after Christmas as you can part with it. Culver City Sanitation will send a special truck to collect used Christmas trees on your regular trash pickup day. Trees should be free of ornaments, tinsel, etc., of course, as the trees will be ground into mulch.
