Should we allow another 7-Eleven store in Culver City at 4436 Sepulveda Boulevard? The Culver City Planning Commission will be listening to your thoughts on the matter on Wednesday, May 23 at City Hall at 7pm.
Across from the newly renovated Taco Bell at the southeast corner of Braddock Drive, Southland Corp. is proposing the building of another 7-Eleven convenience store on the property. With the latest 7-Eleven at the east end of the city having opening just last year, the Southland Corp. may have decided that Culver City is the ideal demographic.
What might be seen as the key issue here is the school complex, only a few blocks away, and the number of students who may become regular customers of junk food, cigarettes and Red Bull offered at 7- Eleven. The residents of Vets Park have expressed their concerns every time the matter has resurfaced on the city’s agenda.
The hearing (rescheduled from February 8 and then again from March 14) will take place in the Mike Balkman Council Chambers in City Hall on Wednesday, May 23, at 7pm.
If you are unable to attend and would like to comment, click on the Culver City Website bar in the link box on the lower right side of this page, and go into the section labeled “Government.” You can send an email to be read in to the record for public comments at the meeting.
Culver City now has Five 7-11 stores(http://www.7-eleven.com/Locator.aspx)located at the addresses below. One for each square mile. I think the bigger question is how much street traffic are we bearing that makes our city so attractive to fast food places, liquor stores and 7-11s? That is the problem we need to solve. When we deal with the land use laws and zoning in our city is when we won’t need to have this discussion.
