The Newell for Congress campaign will host a forum discussion about the new federal Health Care Act this Wednesday, March 31 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lucy Florence Coffee House and Cultural Center in Los Angeles. At the forum, Deputy City Attorney Felton Newell, a Congressional candidate for the 33rd district, will provide an overview about the law’s provisions and take questions from the community about the new law. The Lucy Florence Coffee House and Cultural center is located at 3351 West 43rd Street in Leimert Park.
Newell, 38, a deputy city attorney with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office, attended the University of Chicago Law School, where he studied under President Barack Obama. After graduating from Georgetown University in 1993, Newell worked in former President Bill Clinton’s White House Office of Legislative Affairs. Newell was born and raised in Northern California by his mother, an elementary school teacher, and his father, a union electrician.
California’s 33rd Congressional district encompasses Culver City, the unincorporated neighborhoods of Ladera Heights, View Park and Windsor Hills, and all or portions of the Palms, Mid-Wilshire, Hollywood, Baldwin Hills, Baldwin Village, West Adams, Hancock Park, Koreatown, Echo Park, Silver Lake and Los Feliz neighborhoods in Los Angeles.
