“Uncle Vanya” Nominated for 2 LA Drama Critics Circle Awards

The prestigious Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards has nominated the New American Theatre’s production of “Uncle Vanya” for two awards this year. Culver City’s Jack Stehlin and Jeannine Wisnosky Stehlin, the company’s founders, were delighted to get the nod.

“The New American Theatre extends a heartfelt thank you to the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle for nominating the cast of Uncle Vanya for ‘Best Ensemble’ and director/Artistic Director Jack Stehlin for ‘Best Director’ for our production of Uncle Vanya,” says Jeannine Wisnosky Stehlin, Managing Director of The New American Theatre.”

“Uncle Vanya,” by Anton Chekov, originally premiered in Moscow in 1899, but was touted by New American Theatre as being absolutely contemporary in it’s focus on social roles, women’s rights and climate change. The production was extended over and over past the original dates, and filled the theater for months. Audiences loved it, and found much to discuss after the final curtain call.

Being nominated for the LADCC 2019 is another well deserved round of applause.

“The timing is a wonderful and welcome tonic to the chaotic world around us. The New American Theatre is a membership company of actors and theatre artists, and these nominations reflect the spirit of our company and our community,” Wisnosky Stehlin continued, “Congratulations to the other nominees as well. We are thrilled to be in such impressive company. We count so many as our friends. The LADCC celebrated their 50th year in 2019, and we express gratitude for their continuous support of theatre in Los Angeles.”

The New American Theatre will celebrate their 25th Anniversary in Los Angeles this coming June.
