Robert Weinshank, a Culver City High School graduate and standout student at West Los Angeles College, was recently awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Association for Computing Machinery. The award recognizes his academic excellence and leadership in the college’s Computer Science Information Technology division.
Weinshank is pursuing an Associate Degree for Transfer in Computer Science and a certificate in Essentials of Video Game Programming through West’s new Game Design, Art & Programming pathways —part of the college’s career-focused offerings. He also founded and serves as an officer in WLAC’s new eSports Club, which fosters community through competitive gaming.
“Any idea or dream I can think of, I can create it and play with it and it doesn’t have to follow any of the rules of the real world,” said Weinshank. “It can benefit the community and give people relief from the day to day that is life. It brings together communities and gives people something to look forward to, which is special.”
