Environments and life experiences help shape our brains, which are changing and growing throughout our lives. A growing body of science supports the implications for education—that if we are able to create the right conditions for learning, we can help every student learn and thrive.
Four of our elementary schools recently received Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Awards: Linwood E. Howe Elementary School earned Platinum, El Rincon and Farragut Elementary Schools earned Gold, and El Marino Language Academy earned Silver.
The California program for PBIS initiated the first statewide effort in 2015 to implement a recognition system that acknowledges schools for implementing “whole-child aligned” PBIS with fidelity to the national framework.
Researchers can use this emerging knowledge to redesign a system in which all students have high-quality learning opportunities that ignite their curiosity and nurture their development.
These awards point to principles to nurture innovations and effective school models that advance change. It provides a framework to guide the transformation of Kindergarten through Grade 12 settings, illustrating how practitioners can implement structures and practices that support learning and development.
