Both the Culver City Fire and Police Departments responded to a report of a brush fire on April 29, 2026 in the early evening hours near Eastham Drive and Higuera Street. The fire burned an area behind the 8500 block of Hayden Place, close to Ballona Creek.
Fire personnel quickly contained the blaze with no reported structural damage or injuries.
Out of an abundance of caution, nearby areas were monitored while crews worked to fully extinguish hot spots.
During the investigation, CCPD deployed a drone to assist firefighters with overhead visibility and scene assessment.
The suspect believed to have caused the blaze was arrested on charges of ‘reckless arson,’ and is currently in custody.
