Third “Swatting” Incident with Reported Threat to Costco – Anonymous Caller Disrupts Saturday Shoppers

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, at approximately 10:45 a.m., the Culver City Police Department responded to a reported threat at the Costco located in the 13400 block of Washington Boulevard.

An employee at the store reported receiving an anonymous call from someone claiming they intended to carry out a shooting at the store within fifteen minutes.

The popular shopping location is often crowded, and weekends are known for being busy. The police responded immediately, working with store management to evacuate the location as a precaution.

A thorough investigation was conducted, and the threat was determined to be non-credible. The store reopened and resumed normal operations.

This is the third “swatting” incident in recent weeks, with  previous phony threat calls made in regard to a bomb placed at Southern California Hospital on April 14, and an alleged shooting at the Westfield/Fox Hills Mall on April 6.

The CCPD sent out an ‘alert’ online on Saturday at 2:52 pm, noting that they were keeping an enhanced presence at the location, “out of an abundance of caution.”

Swatting is a felony in the state of California.

The investigation into the origin of the call is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Culver City Police Department at (310) 253-6202.

Anonymous tips may be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-TIPS (8477), using the “P3 Tips” mobile app, or visiting lacrimestoppers.org.
