Japanese Consul General Murota Speaks with Educators

On February 27, 2026, Japanese Consul General Kosei Murota exchanged views about Japanese Language Education with a number of elected officials and prominent educators from throughout Southern California, including CCUSD Superintendent Alfonso Jiménez.

Murota has held talks with university leadership at schools like UCLA to promote Japanese studies and support Japanese students through the Terasaki Center.

In his presentations, he emphasizes nurturing the next generation of Japanese Americans to maintain and grow the U.S.-Japan relationship, encouraging proactive community involvement and also supports initiatives like the JBA Next Generation Forum to bridge the gap between Japanese business practices and the local community, which includes addressing language barriers.

Jiménez said he is working with Murota’s staff to, hopefully, bring the Consul General to El Marino Language School in the future to see the school’s landmark immersion programs in action.
