School Board Approves Redesigned Parking Lot for School Complex, Improved Bike Safety for Students

At the Tuesday, Jan 27, 2026 meeting of the CCUSD School Board, the board members voted unanimously to approve a redesign of the parking lot between Farragut Elementary and the Culver City Middle School and Culver City High School campus complex.

With the goal of improved safety for the increasing number of students who enter the campus from the Pedestrian Bridge/Ocean Ave and the Ballona Creek Bike Lane, the changes will be much appreciated during the morning and afternoon ‘school rush hours.’

The new design, which is scheduled to begin construction in summer of 2026, will include two sets of protected lanes, one for pedestrians and one for cyclists, beginning at the La Ballona Creek and ending at the Elenda Avenue.

Paid for with monies from Measure E, the lot will have restricted access – only teachers and school staff – to assure that they have parking spaces available. The new design will support the plan for continuous bike lanes connecting Culver City to its schools including La Ballona Elementary.

It also creates a north-south commuter route connecting everyone south of the La Ballona Creek to Downtown Culver City

The upgrade received significant support from school staff, parents and students.
