School Board Hears Info on Redesigned Parking Lot for School Complex, Improved Bike Safety for Students

At the Tuesday, Jan 27, 2026 meeting of the CCUSD School Board, the board members heard information to approve a redesign of the parking lot between Farragut Elementary and the Culver City Middle School and Culver City High School campus complex.

The final design has not been approved, but the goal of improved safety for the increasing number of students who enter the campus from the Pedestrian Bridge/Ocean Ave and the Ballona Creek Bike Lane is being considered.

The new design will include two sets of protected lanes, one for pedestrians and one for cyclists, beginning at the La Ballona Creek and ending at the Elenda Avenue.

The proposal will be paid for with monies from Measure E, the lot is proposed to have restricted access – only teachers and school staff – to assure that they have parking spaces available. The new design could also support the plan for continuous bike lanes connecting Culver City to its schools including La Ballona Elementary.

It would creates a north-south commuter route connecting everyone south of the La Ballona Creek to Downtown Culver City
