Jordan to Serve as Interim President at WLAC

Los Angeles Community College District announced the appointment of Dr. Matthew Jordan as Interim President of West Los Angeles College. Dr. Jordan currently serves as Vice President of Academic Affairs at Los Angeles Valley College, where he has led the institution to three consecutive years of enrollment growth and secured over $8.99 million in grants since 2022.

Dr. Jordan brings nearly two decades of progressively responsible administrative experience within California community colleges to this critical leadership role.

Dr. Jordan offered “West’s strength lies in its people, and I am committed to leading with transparency, collaboration, and respect as we work together to advance student success, racial equity, social justice, and environmental responsibility.”

At Los Angeles Valley College, Dr. Jordan has demonstrated exceptional leadership in enrollment management, achieving 7% Full-Time Equivalent Student growth in 2023-24, 10.5% growth in 2024-25, and a projected 9.75% growth in 2025-26. He currently serves as the Los Angeles region representative on the California Community Colleges Chief Instructional Officers Executive Board.

Dr. Jordan’s administrative experience spans instruction, student learning, program development, operations, and institutional effectiveness. He has served as Accreditation Liaison Officer at three colleges—Los Angeles Valley College, Los Angeles Pierce College, and Pasadena City College—and brings extensive experience in budget management, having recently overseen an $88 million budget and developed successful strategies to resolve budget deficits.

“Dr. Jordan’s deep understanding of our district, combined with nearly two decades of California community college leadership, makes him uniquely qualified for this role,” said LACCD Chancellor Alberto J. Román. “His expertise spans enrollment management, fiscal stewardship, equity-centered leadership, and accreditation. Most importantly, he leads with transparency and collaboration. West LA College will benefit tremendously from his steady, experienced leadership.”

Dr. Jordan earned his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from UCLA’s Graduate School of Education & Information Studies in 2019, with dissertation research focused on enrollment management and distributive leadership in California community colleges. He also holds a Master’s of Fine Arts in Photography from UCLA and a Bachelor’s of Arts from Yale University.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Jordan to West LA College and look forward to collaborating with him during this important time,” said LACCD Board of Trustees President Kelsey K. Iino. Ed.D. “The LACCD Board of Trustees is enthusiastic about his appointment, and his collaborative leadership style and proven ability to bring people together around a shared mission will be invaluable as we continue our work to serve our students and strengthen our college community.”

As Interim President, Dr. Jordan will work to position West LA College for sustained enrollment growth and fiscal recovery while strengthening K-12 pipelines, dual enrollment partnerships, and community and workforce outreach. His leadership will emphasize transparent communication, data-driven decision-making, and unwavering alignment with the college’s mission to serve students and advance equity throughout the institution.
