New School Board President Loredo Wins Applause, Highlighting a ‘First’

On Saturday, Dec. 12, 2025, newly seated CCUSD School Board President Stephanie Loredo was applauded by supporters and community for her new position. The ‘champagne toast’ was held at a private residence in Lindberg Park, and the Mayor Pro Tem of Artesia – another southern California elected official from the Filipino community, Melissa Ramoso –  spoke briefly about Stephanie’s importance and the need for representation and visibility.

Kulintang music was performed, along with an introduction to the instrument and the ritual for those who had not experienced it before.

When Loredo spoke, she began by citing her daughter, who had preceded her as student member on the school board, for being her inspiration. “I did not aspire to become an elected official; when I was growing up most of our leaders in government did not look like me…Culver City breaks that stereotype… by embracing inclusivity.”

The crowd included CCUSD’s Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alfonso Jimenez, School Board Vice President Brian Guerrero,  Mayor Freddy Puza, and Vice Mayor Bubba Fish.

“I did not realize the significance when I first ran, but people did not think that, without a large Filipino population, someone like me could win. And here I am.”

The toast included jokes about Martinelli’s Sparkling Cider, an essential ingredient in any “AAPI mimosa,” with Loredo laughing “You do know this is an important part of your culture, right?”

She came back with decorum, noting that she took her responsibilities to heart. “Being the first of anything was not my goal, but I will not be the last. There is so much more to accomplish.”
