Former Planning commissioner and city council candidate Nancy Barba earned four more top endorsements in her run for Culver City Council, expanding the support she has already received from a broad range of community organizations, labor unions, civic groups, elected leaders, and numerous current and former appointed officials.
Kenneth Mejia, Controller for the City of Los Angels announced his support by touting Barba’s open, responsible, and compassionate approach to managing city finances. “As someone who believes in transparency and accountability for city governments, I appreciate Nancy Barba’s public record of standing up for care-centered and bottom-up budgeting,” said Mejia, who as Controller serves as the elected paymaster, auditor and chief accounting officer for the City of Los Angeles. Controller Mejia oversees a team of more than 160 employees who conduct independent audits and investigations, manage the city’s accounting, payroll, and spending, report on the city’s finances, and provide transparency on city operations, policies, metrics, and data. “I am honored to receive Controller Mejia’s support,” said Barba. “Managing the budget is a critical function of city government that cannot be underestimated. Barba’s campaign also won new endorsements from three organizations: Western States Regional Council of Carpenters, Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters, and Friends of the Earth Action. “We appreciate that you recognize the importance of organized labor’s support for your candidacy,” wrote a representative of the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters.
