Bike Culver City and Culver City High School’s Green New Deal have been awarded a grant from the Clean Air Coalition of Greater Los Angeles to support three initiatives celebrating Clean Air Day on October 2, 2024.
The grant will fund activities designed to raise awareness about air quality and promote sustainable practices among local students and the community. The initiatives include:
Art Design Contest: Culver City Unified School District students will design artwork commemorating Clean Air Day. The winning design and two runners-up will receive cash and merchandise awards. The chosen artwork will be featured on custom tote bags for the design winners and members of the Green New Deal club.
Pledge Outreach Campaign: A social media and poster campaign will encourage students at both schools to make clean air pledges. Each participant will receive a custom-designed pin commemorating Clean Air Day. Both Bike Culver City and the Green New Deal club will lead this outreach effort.
Educational Bike Ride: On October 5, 2024, a supervised group bicycle ride will take place from Culver City High School to Stoneview Nature Center. At the Center, participants will attend a presentation on the crucial role of plants in oxygen generation and air purification.
“We’re thrilled to receive this grant and to have the opportunity to engage our students and community in these important clean air initiatives,” said Art Nomura of Bike Culver City.
The Clean Air Coalition’s support underscores the importance of local action in addressing air quality issues and promoting sustainable transportation options.
