Final Weeks for Current Exhibitions at the Wende – Visions of Transcendence and Undercurrents

Time is running out to immerse yourself in our two current exhibitions, Visions of Transcendence: Creating Space in East and West and Undercurrents I: Stories, Symbols, and Sounds, which both close on September 15, 2024.

Visions of Transcendence highlights the resilience and creative power of people deprived of their freedom or their own place to live. This unforgettable exhibition invites you to explore the boundless realms of artistic expression, featuring artists from Leonid Lamm and Maks Velo to Obie Weathers and Nadya Tolokonnikova. Remarkable nonprofit organizations such as The People Concern Studio 526 and Prison Arts Collective were integral partners in developing the exhibition.

Undercurrents I focuses on artwork that doesn’t follow the beaten track of art production and political messaging; it blurs the division between “countercultural” and “official” art, showcasing East German and Polish underground publications, portfolios, and artist books, Hungarian and Czechoslovak countercultural photographs, and works by U.S. artist, educator, and social justice advocate Corita Kent.

Three weekends remain to experience these extraordinary offerings at the Wende. We offer free tours every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
