The Culver City Fire Department was dispatched at 3 am on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021 to extinguish a burning carport near Overland and Oregon Avenue. The blaze was extinguished by 3:20 am, and while significant damage was sustained by the e nearby additional unit and the carport completely destroyed, the main house did not suffer structural harm.
According to Culver City Fire Department Battalion Chief Dave Rindels, “Miscellaneous items being stored under a carport, between the primary residence and an accessory dwelling unit, were damaged or destroyed, the primary residence received minor fire damage with fire extending into the attic space. The (accessory dwelling unit) suffered significant heat to the exterior and lost windows. The carport was destroyed, and the adjacent residence lost multiple windows due to heat exposure,” he added. “But the [main] structure was not compromised.”
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
