School Burglars Arrested and Property Recovered

Since June of 2020, four burglaries occurred at three different Culver City schools. The suspects pried classroom doors with miscellaneous tools, then stole computers, electronics, and office supplies.

Video surveillance obtained by Culver City Police Department Detectives captured the crimes and images of the suspects. Through detective follow-up, Detectives identified both suspects, Johnathan Ortiz and Josue Ortiz (brothers). On July 21st 2020, Culver City Detectives arrested both suspects without incident. They were both booked at the Culver City Police Department for PC 459, Commercial Burglary.

A search warrant for the suspects’ residence in the city of Los Angeles was obtained by Detectives and served on July 21st. Detectives recovered a substantial amount of evidence including, laptops, tablets, musical equipment and various office equipment that belonged to CCUSD, SMUSD and LAUSD schools (pictured below).

This morning, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Filed multiple counts of Commercial Burglary on both Johnathan and Josue.
