Athletes of the Year Win Honors at CCHS

Culver City High School recently honored a long list of outstanding student-athletes for the 2018-2019 school year.

This year’s Athletes of the Year (pictured above) were sprinter Kayla Barnes, who will attend Fresno State University in the fall; volleyball star Megan Shimoda, who will attend UC Santa Barbara; and Centaur football and track star Jamal Glaspie, who will attend Fresno State University in the fall.

Other award winning student-athletes were each presented with a $1,000 Zeidman Booster Club Scholarship Award; Catie Shin – CSU Long Beach (lacrosse), Megan Shimoda – UC Santa Barbara (volleyball), Desi Dickson – UCLA (cross country, soccer and track), and Hannah Beighey – Gonzaga (lacrosse)

The 2019 Class set a record for the most Dave Sanchez award winners; fifty-six. . These were student-athletes who achieved four-year GPA over 3.5. This year also saw the most Jerry Chabola Award winners – twenty-one – for student-athletes who exhibit outstanding sportsmanship and exhibit the attributes of Character Counts.

The 2019 Class also set the record for the most Ocean League Champions in one school year (7): four Girls CIF Semifinalist Teams (volleyball, tennis, soccer, and softball), one 1 Boys Semifinalist Team (water polo) and one CIF Champion (football).
