Amazon Remaking Culver Studios Campus

Amazon has started work on its highly-anticipated expansion of The Culver Studios, the venerable movie studio that will soon become the Southern California offices of Amazon.

According to Urbanize.LA, the 14-acre property, located at 9336 Washington Boulevard, is poised for the addition of approximately 413,000 square feet of rentable space within seven new buildings and refurbished historic structure. The expansion also calls for the construction of a new automobile garage along Van Buren Place, as well as the construction of underground parking below the new buildings. At completion, the property will have parking accommodations for more than 2,300 vehicles.

The new buildings, designed by Gensler, will rise up to four stories in height, offering a mixture of office and production space.

It was announced one year ago that Amazon would begin moving its Los Angeles operations to a 280,000-square-foot space at the Culver Studios from its current offices in Santa Monica. The relocation will bring 700 employees to the Culver City property, including Amazon Studios, IMDb, Amazon Video, and World Wide Advertising by 2020.

Since then, Amazon has also leased the entire 75,000-square-foot office component of the Culver Steps, an adjacent mixed-use development which is also being built by Hackman Capital Partners.
