Black Talkies @ MCLM – Gumbo

jazz1Black Talkies on Parade presents, “Gumbo,” Saturday Oct. 28 at 2:30 pm. The first episode of director Ken Burns’ Jazz series chronicling the fascinating history of the uniquely American musical genre. Narrated by Keith David the film takes an in-depth look at the many influences of early jazz music including spirituals, Creole rhythms, marching bands, minstrel shows, ragtime and more. The film features rarely seen archival film clips, music and photographs, with interviews from some of jazz’s premiere artists, scholars and critics. Join us as we celebrate this renowned musical art form with an illuminating look into jazz’s vibrant history. Runtime of the film is 87 minutes.

The afternoon host is Lloyd Clayton, Executive Director of the Clayton Museum. Following the screening Shawnee Gibbs will discuss the film and hold a Q&A.
