You just can’t beat our Culver City Fire Department: Last month Engine 3 crews went up to help with the Butte Fire in Northern California, providing important containment lines and structure protection. Now all through the month of October Culver City firefighters are once again going “PINK”, wearing pink to support those whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer. (You can join them and show your support by purchasing a CCFD breast cancer awareness t-shirt.) Pink t-shirts in both men’s and women’s sizes are available at Fire Station 1 (9600 Culver Blvd.) for $15.00 each. 100% of the t-shirt sales proceeds go directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Hooray! The Ballona Creek Bike Path was voted #1 on the Westside last month in the Argonaut’s “Best of the Westside 2015” edition! With more people enjoying the path for recreation, commuting, birdwatching, and exercise, more improvements are on the way. Culver City-based Ballona Creek Renaissance (BCR) is pleased to have been a part of the bike path’s ongoing renaissance! Would you like to participate with this active group? The Culver City Friends of the Library (“FOL”) has been pretty quiet this year, as they await the re-opening of the renovated library. The project is on track, and although there are still just “early 2016’ predictions for re-opening the library, they are beginning to think about plans for when it does reopen. This is a great time to join or renew your memberships, and even think about serving on the FOL board. There will be a Grand Opening Celebration (or two!) when the library re-opens, and they’re looking for folks who would like to be part of the festivities. Send an email either to [email protected] or [email protected].
