Lucky us! The Culver City Symphony Orchestra continues its 2014-15 Season with the concert “For Young Musicians,” set for this Saturday night, February 28, at 8:00 p.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium, corner Overland and Culver. It’s being touted as the full symphony orchestra playing in “intimate Veterans Memorial Auditorium… for a big sound in a smallish space.” (Seems pretty big to us!) The program includes Mozart’s “The Magic Flute; Violin Concerto No. 2 by Wieniawski (Kevin Miura, Violin); excerpts from Stravinsky’s “Pulcinella Suite”; and Schumann’s “Symphony No. 2.” The concert is under the direction Conductor/Music Director-Frank Fetta. General admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for young folks 17 years and under. The box office opens at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are also available at www.culvercitysymphony.org.
Anybody here (hear?) have noise issues regarding LAX? If so, you’re invited to a public meeting titled “Overflights, Noise and Other Impacts of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Culver City” this Tuesday evening, February 24. The meeting will run from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and will be held in the Rotunda Room of the Veterans Memorial Building. The panel participating in the discussion is comprised of Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells, Councilmember Jim Clarke, and City Council-Appointed City Representative and Alternate to the FAA Noise Roundtable, June Lehrman and Stephen Murry, along with City staff members. Promising to be even more glamorous than the Oscars is the Culver City Senior Center’s Golden Fashion Show, set for this Tuesday, February 24 at 1:00 p.m. at the Center, corner Overland Avenue and Culver Blvd. A themed “Celebrity Look-Alike” show will be presented by Rudy Carino’s dressmaking class, promising to be a fun and lively event.
