November 22, 2013, began with threats of rain. The rain, thankfully, did not come until a little after 7PM, just as the competition ended. The first of the forty-five participants of the 2013 Parness Concerto Competition, held in the Fine Arts Theater on the campus of West Los Angeles College, started at 9AM. Yes, that is ten hours of listening (minus lunch and a few breaks) to an extremely deep pool of very talented young musicians from ages ten to twenty-five.
This very talented group presented the judges with very difficult decisions to choose the Winners, First Runner-Ups and Honorable Mentions.
Thank you to the participants for their hard work and dedication in keeping Classical Music. These young musicians are the future of Classical Music.
We look forward to seeing and hearing then in the orchestra’s future competitions. And thank you to participants’ parents and guardians, teachers and accompanists for turning the competition into a very exciting and satisfying day.
The Winners, First Runner-Ups and Honorable Mentions are below.
