The art and history experts at the Wende Museum were crestfallen to discover that this Soviet-era bust of Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space, was heavily damaged during shipping. So, they decided to take these lemons and make lemonade! The Wende Museum is inviting a Los Angeles-area artist to transform this broken cosmonaut into a new work of art.
The finished piece will return to the museum, with the possibility of future display, and the selected artist will be featured on our social media and in an upcoming newsletter. When it was in one piece, the bust measured 70.5 cm x 60 cm.
Submit your proposal at wendemuseum.org/brokencosmonaut by noon on Friday, July 24 for consideration. Please note: the selected artist must pick up and return the bust in person at the museum in Culver City. We are unable to ship it.
