Civic Assembly to Continue with Second Session

The City of Culver City’s Civic Assembly continues this July with a second session focused on increasing public participation in the City’s budget process. The sessions will be conducted by the Center for New Democratic Processes.

Culver City residents ages 18 and older are invited to submit an expression of interest form to join the applicant pool. A new group of 30 residents will be randomly selected and demographically stratified through a lottery process to reflect Culver City’s community.

Participants will learn, deliberate, and make recommendations in response to the question:

“How might the City of Culver City increase public participation in the budget process?”

No experience with local government, public policy, public finance, or budgeting is required. The Assembly is seeking residents with a broad range of personal and professional experiences.

Second Civic Assembly Session
Thursday, July 16; Friday, July 17; and Saturday, July 18, 2026
9 AM to 4:30 PM each day
The gathering will take place Culver City, with the venue shared with selected participants

Participants must be able to attend all three days. Selected participants will receive a $675 honorarium, a transportation stipend, and caregiving support on a case-by-case basis with supporting documentation.

A postcard inviting expressions of interest has been sent to 10,000 randomly selected Culver City households. If you received a postcard, please have it nearby when completing the form. The form will ask for the “Unique Code” or “Invitation Code” printed next to your address. Residents who did not receive a postcard may still complete the form by entering “NONE” in the appropriate field.

The first Civic Assembly session was held in May 2026, when 30 Culver City residents began exploring challenges and opportunities related to increasing public participation in the budget process. The second session will build on that work by further reviewing and refining potential actions.

Personal information submitted through the form will be collected, managed, and stored by the Center for New Democratic Processes. The City of Culver City will not collect, retain, or access respondent personal information collected by CNDP.
