Culver City Democratic Club Votes to Endorse Roy for LA City Attorney

The members of the Culver City Democratic Club are proud to announce that they have voted to endorse Marissa Roy for Los Angeles City Attorney.

While the Culver City City Attorney is a staff member who represents the City government, the Los Angeles city attorney is an elected advocate for the people.

The Culver City Democratic Club doesn’t often endorse candidates who won’t appear on Culver City ballots, but in the case of the city attorney’s office, our members recognized that the actions of the Los Angeles City Attorney have the potential to have a significant positive impact on Culver City.

Marissa Roy is a civil rights attorney, a former Deputy City Attorney, and now a Deputy Attorney General who has taken on billion-dollar companies, defended sanctuary cities, and helped put stolen wages back into workers’ pockets. She has spent her career protecting tenants from illegal evictions, fighting for workers’ rights, and aggressively challenging Trump and other right-wing extremists.

The Primary election isn’t until June, but her endorsements are already numerous and impressive including Los Angeles County Supervisor LIndsay Horvath, California State Senators Lola Smallwood-Cuevas and Caroline Menjivar, Assemblymembers Sade Elwahary and Tina McKinnor, Culver City’s Vice Mayor Freddy Puza, Former Mayor and Councilmember Yasmine-Imani McMorrin and Councilmember Bubba Fish, Los Angeles City Councilmembers Eunisses Hernandez and Ysabel Jurado, the Working Family Party, and major unions including SEIU-UHW, United Auto Workers 6, United Teachers of Los Angeles, Roofers & Waterproofers Local 36, and SMART Local 105.

The first campaign finance reporting period revealed that Roy had raised more money than the incumbent she is attempting to unseat with twice as many donations under $100.

Club members who spoke in favor of endorsing Roy mentioned her track record, her impressive campaign, and the scandals surrounding her opponent.

The Culver City Democratic Club is the city’s oldest and largest political organization. Membership is open to all registered Democrats. For more information, visit c-c-d-c.com
