It’s election season, and so it’s time to think about how to vote smart. Local issues get the least amount of ‘air-time’ and yet they matter the most. What goes on in your town is far more likely to have a direct effect on you than even state-wide contests.
Measure AA is designed to support our local school district in a way that is much more equitable than past parcel taxes have done. As a ‘graduated’ tax, it is priced by square footage, as recorded by the Los Angeles County Assessor.
Culver City has, historically, supported tax measures to benefit the school district. Even during times of economic downturn, voters have passed parcel taxes for education when very few other cities were able to do so. Those who create parcel taxes usually offer that it’s the smart way to go. Good school districts keep real estate in demand – everyone wants good public schools. Supporting education is the most essential and basic public good that society requires.
Voting yes on Measure AA is voting smart.
