Culver City to Suspend CityBus Services Following Shooting

On Thursday, Culver City lost a dedicated public servant and member of our City family. The operator, who is not being identified at this time out of respect for the family, was shot and killed while driving their route. The circumstances surrounding what happened are still being investigated. But today, our hearts are shattered. Their loss will be felt across our City team.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the fatal shooting occurred Thursday evening in Mar Vista. Multiple bullets were fired in the incident and a man in his 40s was killed, according to Los Angeles Police, who said the suspected gunman, a white man,  was at large.

The incident took place around 5:15 p.m. near the intersection of South Centinela and Mitchell Avenues, said Officer Charles Miller of the LAPD.

According to a witness, a man with a head wound was taken off a Culver CityBus following the shooting.

“We have lost a deeply valued member of our City family to a senseless act of violence,” said Mayor Freddy Puza. “We are grieving the loss of someone who dedicated their time and talents to serving Culver City and who made a meaningful difference through that service every day. Behind every City service are people who care deeply about this community, and tonight we mourn one of our own. This loss is deeply personal for our Culver CityBus team and will be felt across our entire City organization.
Culver CityBus service will be suspended throughout the weekend as we honor this loss and give our team time to grieve. Our hearts are with the family, loved ones and colleagues during this devastating time.”
