The Culver City Unified School Board voted to cut two positions from the arts program at the March 9, 2026 meeting. The regular meeting last Tuesday at 6 pm at City Hall had carried forward the discussion of what positions would need to be eliminated, with the possibility of laying off metal health counselors or the arts infrastructure position. Despite impassioned pleas from parents and students, the positions of Arts Coordinator and Manager of the Robert Frost Theater are both on the list to be eliminated.
CCUSD School Board President Stephanie Loredo has emphasized that no decision is final until May, when the state of California will release the revised budget.
The state is currently holding out on $5 million due to Culver City schools from Prop 98 funds.
President Loredo offered a statement, saying ” To continue operating without intervention from the state, the Board took action to make preliminary reductions to a number of positions across the district. This step allows us to submit a second interim budget report demonstrating that we will meet the state’s required 3% reserve for the next three years… Final decisions regarding reductions will be made on or before May 15.”
The next school board meeting is scheduled for March 24, 2026.
