Council Designates WHCHC as Developer for Affordable Housing at 11029 Washington

At the City Council meeting on Jan. 26, 2926, the council approved the West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation as the developer for 11029 Washington Blvd, the former Martin Retting Gun Store. The plans is for 67 units of affordable housing at the repurposed site, which the city purchased in September 2023.

Since then, it has blossomed into a mosaic mural under the leadership of former Culver City Artist Laureate Katy Krantz. She made the artworks knowing they would be temporary.

Now, the next incarnation is on the way.

The community was asked on multiple occasions for input on what the next incarnation of the site could be, and the city garnered hundreds of responses. WHCHC was selected from five proposals presented to the Planning Commission in September of 2025. Taking advantage of a density bonus will allow the 67 units,  almost double the 35 units per acre allowed in an ‘Mixed-Use zone.’

With Tilden Terrace almost across the street, this beautified block offers a coffee shop (Millcross) and bakery (Copenhagen) and multiple restaurants along with medical and dental offices within easy walk of both the King Fahad Mosque and La Ballona Elementary School.

It was noted that teachers will be prioritized for housing, so that they can walk to any of the CCUSD schools.
