CCUSD Increases Graduation Rates, Notes Progress on State Education Dashboard

The Culver City Unified School District is showing some positive results on the California Department of Education Dashboard. The state’s communications on where and how education is gaining offer “green” ratings for CCUSD in all areas. Absenteeism, Suspension Rate, English Learner Progress, College/Career, English Language Arts, and Mathematics, all received “green” ratings, demonstrating meaningful progress across the board.

School Superintendent Dr. Alfonso Jiménez shared that “These outcomes reflect the high-quality education our students receive and the collective effort of our entire community.”

The CCUSD Graduation Rate earned a “blue” rating, the highest level of performance, with a 97.2% graduation rate, representing a 3.6% increase.

Out of all 80 school districts in Los Angeles County, only two, including CCUSD, demonstrated growth across every area (green and blue) of the California School Dashboard.

California’s graduation rate has continued to make progress and is now at its highest since the launch of the California School Dashboard in 2017. Graduation is at 87.5%, up 4.5% since 2017.

School Board President Triston Ezidore was quote in the Los Angeles Times, saying that CCUSD holds “focus on the social and emotional well-being of students, including with mental health counselors. The school system also relies on literacy coaches and reading specialists and prioritizes its college and career center.”

While the LA Times questioned the gap between graduation rates and student achievement (overall, not just at CCUSD,)  Ezidore pushed back on the assumptions that graduation was a participation trophy. Emphasizing that   “…a focus on student achievement is inseparable from improving the graduation rate. That includes providing strong reading and writing foundations early, as well as giving students targeted support when they need it.”
