Experience Sandhi, a traditional Kathak solo by celebrated choreographer and performer Rukhmani Mehta along with acclaimed musical artists Jayanta Banerjee on sitar and Salar Nader on tabla. Thursday, November 13, 2025 | beginning at 7:30 PM at the Glorya Kaufman Community Center at the Wende Museum.
Drawing inspiration from the Sanskrit concept of sandhi — which describes a meeting point where opposing energies intertwine and boundaries blur – Mehta explores how the traditional kathak solo is itself such a meeting point.
The performance invites audiences into the dualities that give kathak dance its vitality- tradition, history and the present moment; the multiplicity of human expression and divine oneness; the collective story of a people and the individual voice of an artist.
In Sandhi, artist and audience go on a shared journey of dance, music, rhythm and storytelling, exploring the liminal spaces where dualities converge and give way to transformation and transcendence.
