Polish Archives Open House @ The Wende

In the 1980s, Solidarity began with a strike in a shipyard. It grew into a movement that helped break an empire. It was built by workers, artists, and the quiet courage of those who kept the fight alive when it was outlawed.

The Wende’s Polish Underground Collection holds the traces of that struggle: leaflets, cartoons, smuggled papers. They speak to how ideas moved through the cracks of censorship. And to how people, when pressed, can change the course of history.

From 12 to 5 p.m. this Saturday, these rare materials will be on display at the Wende Museum. At 2 p.m., Dr. Shana Penn and artist Tomas Osinski will speak on the movement’s history, the role of women, and how art fuels resistance.

In a world where democracy remains fragile, Solidarity’s story is not just history: it is a warning and a guide.

A complimentary garden reception will follow the spoken program.

Sat, Aug 16 | 12–5 p.m.
