Culver City Community Offers Farewell to Lucas, Departing CCUSD Superintendent

Mayor Dan O’Brien and members of the CCUSD Board, Cabinet, Culver City Teachers Federation, Association of Classified Employees, and community shared their gratitude, anecdotes, and praise for outgoing Superintendent Dr. Brian Lucas and his two years of service to CCUSD. Dr. Lucas’ last day was yesterday, July 10, 2025. He has retired and will be moving to Florida to attend to family matters.

All agreed that Dr. Lucas came to the District at an exceptionally difficult time for CCUSD. This included being in the middle of a hard-fought bond campaign, and facing a budget deficit and impending personnel cuts. Despite these challenges, Dr. Lucas helped pass both the bond, and the renewal of the parcel tax. He led with a steady hand during multiple crises, hired stellar administrators, improved morale, and left the district in a better place, always placing students at the center of his work.

Some of the words used to describe Dr. Lucas included calming, empathetic, witty, patient, positivity, generous, professional, classy, confident, trailblazer, mentor, steadiness, empathetic, and a great listener and communicator. Everyone heaped on admiration for his leadership skills, his talent in hiring great talent, and for leaving behind a proud legacy in our District.

Dr. Lucas well as he returns home to his native state to take care of his family.
