CCPD Arrest Suspect in Shooting @ Paton Vigil

The murder of Chyler Paton, who was shot in a driveway in Torrance where he had gone to pick up a family member at a pool party is still unresolved. The June 24 vigil in his memory saw gun fire that did not result in injuries, but put an already sad and angry crowd into fear and flight.

The Culver City Police have arrested a suspect in the shooting at the vigil.

From the CCPD, “On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at approximately 7:50 p.m., Culver City Police Officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired near Culver City High School, located in the 11000 block of Franklin Avenue. At the time, an estimated 200 to 300 people were gathered on the high school football field to attend a vigil for [Chyler Paton.] CCPD officers were already in the vicinity and arrived at the scene within two minutes.

“Upon arrival, officers confirmed that a physical altercation occurred during the event, escalating to a shooting. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Officers quickly secured the scene.”

While some had run away at the sound of the gunshots, those still present were kept on the field until after 11 pm, while police searched the area for the shooter.

“Detectives responded and initiated an extensive investigation. The suspect was identified, and after conducting surveillance, obtaining search warrants, and tracking multiple leads, the suspect was located in the area of 58th Street and Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles.”

The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and is described as a 20 year old male, but his identity has not yet been released. He was transported to the Culver City Police Department, where he was booked for Attempted Murder.

There is no word yet as to whether this suspect is also a “person of interest”  in Paton’s murder.
