This past weekend’s rain and debris from fire zones have Los Angeles County public health officials issuing an advisory, and posting the closure of miles of coastline – Malibu to Playa del Rey. People planning to use the beach are advised to check on the status of the location they are planning to visit. Best advice is to stay out of the water.
LA County Health officials have stated “Fire debris runoff and pollutants in the water and on the sand may contain toxic or carcinogenic chemicals, which can be harmful to health. This includes any runoff that may flow onto or pond on the beach sand.”
Los Angeles County has also issued an ocean water quality rain advisory for all Los Angeles County beaches until Thursday morning. The advisory warns beach users to avoid water contact for at least 72 hours after significant rainfall.
