Heidi Duckler Dance Taps Perez for 39th Anniversary

HDD’s longtime performing artist & collaborator, Alejandro Perez, will create an original interactive dance work for our 39th Anniversary Celebration.

Please save the date for Saturday, September 21st, 2024, as we Dance in the Light of the Harvest Moon for a special night marking 39 years of site-specific dance in Los Angeles. Your support will help us continue making the arts more accessible, domestically and internationally, for years to come!

Our celebration takes place at Loyola Law School’s iconic campus, designed by the visionary architect Frank Gehry. This groundbreaking project, completed in 1978, marked a turning point in Gehry’s career, earning him both national and international recognition. Just as Gehry has transformed spaces through his architecture, Heidi Duckler has reimagined how we experience movement in these spaces. Together, Duckler and Gehry inspire us to see the world through a lens of creativity and connection, challenging us to imagine new possibilities for how we inhabit and interact with our surroundings.

The evening will be a vibrant blend of artistry and community, featuring a cocktail reception, captivating performances, and an awards ceremony. We’ll honor prominent LA leaders for their exceptional contributions: Marla Bleavins, Deputy Executive Director & Chief Financial Officer at the Port of Los Angeles, will receive the Civic Engagement Award; Therese H. Maynard, Leonard Cohen Chair for Law and Business at LMU Loyola Law School, will be presented with the Education and Learning Award; and Alex M. Johnson, Vice President of Public Affairs at The California Wellness Foundation, will be recognized with the Human Impact Award.

Adding to the evening’s allure, we will present three new works by choreographers Madison OlandtGenna Moroni, and Alejandro Perez. Each piece will offer a unique artistic perspective, engaging you in the innovative spirit of our company. The night will also feature School of Fish, an original piece by transdisciplinary choreographer Shoji Yamasaki, known for his creative storytelling through movement.
