Amezola Announces “Not Running” for Re-Election in November

At an event on Friday, May 25, 2024, Culver City Unified School Board member Paula Amezola announced that she would not be running for re-election in the upcoming November election.

She spoke to the crowd and said “It breaks my heart to announce that I will not be running for re-election. While our district is making strides, there is still so much work to be done, especially for our most vulnerable students. At this time, I need to focus on my family, and given that we will be out of the country for most of 2025, I have made the difficult decision not to run. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our community. Only together can we build a community of learning for each and every child.”

Mindful of leaving a legacy, Amezola has helped to create more support for students with needs. She noted that, of the more than one hundred qualifying graduating CCHS Seniors from Latino families, only six had been able to attend a University of California. Partnering with the Culver City Education Foundation to offer the Si Se Puede Scholarship Fund for Latino students, Amezola asked that any contributions that would have gone to her re-election campaign go to support the Si Se Puede Scholarship.  The tribute address is [email protected].

Amezola will finish her term on the school board and step out after there is a new board member elected in November.
