Director of Community Relations at Loyola Marymount University, equity champion, and Culver City General Plan Advisory Committee Member Freddy Puza will launch his 2022 campaign for Culver City Council at an exciting event on Saturday, March 12, from 3pm to 5pm. Everyone interested is invited to come meet the candidate, and hear Freddy’s vision for Culver City.

Speakers will include Mayor Dr. Daniel Lee, Former Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells, Council Member Yasmine-Imani McMorrin, West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tempore Sepi Shyne, and Culver City School Board Members Paula Amezola (virtually) and Dr. Kelly Kent (virtually). The event will be held outside, and it is requested that everyone attending is vaccinated against COVID-19.

“I’ve lived in Culver City for nine years, and have grown to care deeply about the people in our community,” said Puza. “Throughout my career and public service, I have taken leadership positions to build bridges, create solutions to complex problems, and advocate for all members of society.”

Freddy Puza came within 28 votes of winning a seat on the City Council in the previous election. His strong showing in 2020, and continued community involvement and support, offers a promising opportunity, but it is not one he takes for granted. Freddy Puza is committed to running with even greater focus, energy, and passion.

“This campaign is about listening to the people of Culver City,” Puza stressed. “My first campaign gave me the opportunity to meet so many Culver City voters, and I’m excited to have the privilege of meeting so many more this time, hearing what they have to say, and understanding the direction they want the city to go.”

The Culver City Council election will be held with the U.S. General Election on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. All Culver City residents are encouraged to vote.

“If elected, I will work hard to be responsive to the community, and bring residents into the decision-making process, so they feel engaged in what their city is doing,” stated Puza. “Voters are telling me they want responsible leadership that will address the issues they care about, including more and affordable housing, improving local transportation options, reimagined policing, government accountability, and climate change.”

Freddy Puza has demonstrated his dedication to public service in a lifetime of work, volunteering, and helping his community. He serves on Culver City’s General Plan Advisory Committee, formerly served on the city’s Committee on Homelessness, and participates in numerous local civic groups, including the Fox Hills Neighborhood Association, Protect Culver City Renters, Culver City Democratic Club, Culver City Action Network, Culver City Historical Society, and Leadership Culver City. Puza also co-organized Culver City’s first Pride Ride and Rally in June, 2021.

The candidate currently works as the Director of Community Relations at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), where he leads the school’s programs to cultivate, enhance, and steward relationships with community organizations, elected officials, and community leaders. He also co-founded the LMU chapter of the Alliance for White Anti-Racists Everywhere (AWARE), served as the co-chair of the LGBTQ Faculty and Staff Network, and was president of LMU’s Staff Senate.

Puza’s campaign has already received prominent early endorsements from Culver City Mayor Dr. Daniel Lee, Council Member Yasmine-Imani McMorrin, School Board Members Dr. Kelly Kent and Paula Amezola de Herrera, Former Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells, Planning Commissioner Nancy Barba, Advisory Committee for Homelessness and Housing Member Bubba Fish, and Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Chair Michelle Weiner.

If elected, Freddy Puza would be the first openly LGBTQ Culver City Council Member, a historic milestone that would further the city’s reputation for inclusive leadership.

“Everyone is invited to my campaign launch on Saturday, March 12, at 3pm,” said Puza. ”I look forward to seeing you, hearing your concerns, and sharing my vision for Culver City.”
