The holiday traditions of Culver City have changed shape in many ways, and this year they are bigger, brighter and more inclusive than ever. What were once two separate tree lighting ceremonies have merged into one, and the online event of 2020 has expanded to become the live and online celebration of 2021!
The 2021 Annual Downtown Culver City Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration is back, and this year it is live AND online. Hosted by Culver City Downtown Business Association and Culver City Parks, Recreation and Community Services, this hybrid event is family-friendly for everyone to enjoy live in person at Town Plaza, or via livestream from anywhere.
On Thursday, December 2nd, the festivities downtown will take place from 6:00-8:30 pm PST, including games, cookies and the traditional ‘visit from Santa.’ The live stream is on from 6pm-6:45pm, with choirs singing, dancers dancing and a countdown to light the tree. It is a labor of love for the organizers, and being able to have Culver City based arts organizations VOX Femina and Invertigo Dance make it all feel even more like a hometown holiday party. Student performers include Culver City High School’s Academy of Visual and Performing Arts jazz combo, the Culver City Middle School Choir, and Hula dancers from Culver’s Kūhai Hālau O Kapualaniokekukui Pā ʻOlapa Kahiko for a special Mele Kalikimaka.
The live celebration will be filmed using multiple cameras and theatrical lighting allow the event to be visually compelling, beautiful, and even more meaningful for at-home audiences.
