Final Election Totals – Vera, McMorrin, Eriksson Will be Seated for Terms on City Council

At the long awaited conclusion of the first city council race tallied by Los Angeles County, the final vote totals are in. Albert Vera is the winner of the most votes, with 10,665, giving him 18.74% of the total. Second is Yasmine-Imani McMorrin with 10, 474 votes, coming in with 18.40% of the total.

The close race between Goran Eriksson and Freddy Puza has been the nail biter; Puza led on the initial count, but then the first update had Eriksson overtake him by a slender margin, and the top total has remained with Eriksson since. He finished with 8,700 votes, taking 15.28% of the total. Puza ended the race with 8,672, only 28 votes behind.

Vera and McMorrin will be taking the places of those leaving; Council member Meghan Sahli-Wells is termed out after serving eight years, and Council member Thomas Small is stepping down after four years. Incumbent Mayor Eriksson will be returning to the council for his final term.

The next City Council meeting on Dec. 14, 2020 will see the new council members sworn in and virtually seated.
