CCPD Arrest Driver, Armed and DUI

A driver was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence with two children in the vehicle and pointing a gun at a person in Culver City. Officers were dispatched to the 5500 block of Sepulveda Boulevard at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday for a report of a person sitting in a blue Suburban and openly drinking alcohol with two children in the vehicle, according to the Culver City Police Department.

The caller told officers the suspect drove away northbound on Sepulveda Boulevard, and while officers were on their way to that area, a second person called to report that the same driver had pointed a gun at him and was last seen in a Jack In The Box drive-thru line in the 5400 block of Sepulveda, police said.

Officers located the suspect in the 10900 block of Jefferson Boulevard and pulled over the vehicle, which had an 8-year-old and 9-year-old inside.

Officers found a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun on the front passenger seat, as well as two empty bottles of alcohol, according to police. The driver was arrested on suspicion of assault with a firearm and driving under the influence.

The two children were released to their mother, police said. The relationship the driver had with the children was not immediately available.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call the Culver City Detective Bureau at 310-253-6300.
